Hi,
Just searching for some answers regarding the conditions I was recently diagnosed with. Without making it too lengthy, I’ll give a little background. This past spring I experienced my first “flare up” with ulcerative colitis which lasted several weeks. I went to a gastroenterologist and was ultimately diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. I then had a second flare earlier this fall which was shorter, but much more severe, to the point that, though I didn’t, I know should have went to the hospital. I missed two weeks of work while recovering from a dangerously low hemoglobin level. I have been on 2.4g Lialda (mesalamine) a day since and it has pretty much kept everything under control minus some very minor symptoms here and there.
Onto my second issue… I have been suffering from sciatic/low back type pain for about 12 years or so, long before the ulcerative colitis surfaced. Truthfully, up until this year, moderate back pain/discomfort was really the only health ailment I have really had to deal with. The pain would come and go, usually lasting a few weeks/months followed by equal time with no pain between. Over the years the time between episodes of pain got fewer and further between. I went to doctors, chiropractors, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, you name it, and was told that it must be a muscular problem and that the best thing I could do was self medicate with NSAIDS and was sent on my way. I also had numerous x-rays and MRIs of my back taken at various times through the years which, the doctors all told me, seemed to show nothing to indicate any structural problems. The most recent years I have relied on daily NSAIDS (ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin, etc.) to control the pain. This worked fairly well for the most part and kept the pain at least manageable.
Thanks!
